You won’t find the Nanking cherry in the grocery store, so grow it yourself! It’s hardy, tolerant of almost any condition, and the cherries are amazing. They are tiny (pea size) but prolific. Loved by birds, wildlife, and humans. If you have chickens – plant them a few. There is almost nothing as enjoyable as watching chickens eat berries!
Grows readily from seed and grows “quick” for a berry producing shrub. Should be producing within 3 years. Ours grow in the sand plains of Minnesota – where it is dry and cold. The more sun and the better the soil, the better your results will be, but…. we are able to grow them even in our harsh environment!
